The origin of kangaroos

My name is Danielle Kempers. Since 1999, I have worked as a Neonatology nurse practitioner and established my own baby practice. So in my practice, in addition to counseling and coaching , you can attend a variety of courses that will help give your baby a happy baby time. In addition, I started Babyspa Happiest Baby in June 2022. Many parents visit a baby spa with their baby these days, and how nice is it that you can get instant professional advice about your baby?

As a 22 -year-old, I took my first steps in a Neonatology ward. I had been accepted at Sophia Children’s Hospital to study Intensive Care Neonatology Nursing. That I had to move from the head of North Holland to Rotterdam for this I took for granted. Finally, I could start making my dream come true. Indeed, this was exactly why I had chosen to study nursing. From the first day on the ward, I was fascinated by the fact that such small
children could have such great personalities after all. How you talk to a baby and how you touch him turned out to make a world of difference. One of the first things I learned in the department was the importance of kangarooing (or pouching). To be honest, I really had never heard of it.

This method was born out of sheer necessity in 1978. A hospital in Bogota, Columbia was struggling with a shortage of incubators and enormously high mortality rates. To still keep the babies warm, they were laid on their mother’s bare breast. By chance, it was then discovered that this had a positive effect on both the baby and the mother. Even so
positive that mortality rates decreased and babies could often be discharged home earlier. Soon this news also spread to Western countries and research was conducted on this method. It was first introduced to the Netherlands in 1986 by AMC Neonatologist Richard van Leeuwen.

Womboo’s pouch shirt allows parents to easily pouch and carry their newborn baby close to them. This offers parent and baby so many conveniences and benefits. It strengthens the bond between parent and child, makes a positive contribution to baby’s development, provides calmness, helps against reflux and cramps.
